George Clooney Throws Clinton High-Dollar Fundraiser Under the Bus

In an interview to be aired on Sunday, April 17, George Clooney may have thrown the Clinton campaign and the notion of high dollar fundraisers under the bus by telling the truth.

Clooney told host Chuck Todd he agrees with the protesters who showed up at the Friday night fundraiser and thinks it’s “ridiculous” the amount of money involved in politics.

“The Sanders campaign when they talk about it is absolutely right,” Clooney said.

CHUCK TODD: Let me start with a dinner you co-hosted on Friday night. Big fundraiser I know that you have planned for later tonight. Do you look at how much is being raised? I think the cost of the Friday night dinner — $353,000 a couple to be a co-chair. Do you look at it yourself and think that’s an obscene amount of money?

GEORGE CLOONEY: Yes, I think it’s an obscene amount of money. I think that — you know, we had some protesters last night when we pulled up in San Francisco. And they were right to protest. They’re absolutely right. It is an obscene amount of money. The Sanders campaign when they talk about it is absolutely right. It’s ridiculous that we should have this kinda money in politics. I agree completely.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and others have criticized Clinton’s attendance at such fundraisers and acceptance of campaign cash raised by lobbyists and special interest groups.

In an interview with CNN aired March 27, Sanders said, “It is obscene that Secretary Clinton keeps going to big money people to fund her campaign.”

“But it’s not only this Clooney event. It is the fact that she has now raised well over $15 million from Wall Street for her super PAC and millions more from the fossil fuel industry and from the drug companies,” Sanders continued.
