Some Hillary Clinton supporters and, apparently, a faction in the Vatican are accusing current Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders of inviting himself to the Vatican. The Sanders campaign released the invitation letter as proof the invitation came from the Vatican.
Sanders spokesman Michael Briggs said, “The invitation came to the senator from the Vatican.”
On the situation, Sanders says, “this is an invitation from the Vatican, from a pope that I have enormous respect for in term of the level of consciousness that he’s raising on the need to have morality in our economy.”
A more important question is whether or not there is a faction at the Vatican who seeks to use this opportunity to make the Pope look partisan or like someone trying to sway an American election. Because…you know…Americans vote for whoever the Pope chooses. *sarcasm*
Clinton supporters, of course, pounced on this news. Some have outright accused Sanders of inviting himself…because…you know…that’s how life works: you invite yourself to the Vatican and they just let you waltz right in. *sarcasm*
If Sanders attends, the event is scheduled just 4 days before the New York Democratic primary.
